Juvenile red-tailed hawk photos by Mark Valery. These are very
good photos that show a lot of identification points for a perched bird. The
fine black bands on the light brown tail, the white
throat, spots that form a belly band, and, if you notice on the third photo
the white mottling on the outer wing forms a "V" . The pictures were taken in
Burlington, MA. As the third photo demonstrates, the wingtips of a perched
eastern redtail fall short of the tail tip, unlike the western species.
