Hear the red-shouldered's call

AKA: Red-bellied hawk; winter hawk

SIZE: 17 to 24 inches

WINGSPAN: 32 to 50 inches

FLIGHT SPEED:18 to 34 MPH

FEEDING HABITS: Usually hunts from perch. Eats mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and the occasional bird.

IDENTIFICATION: Long wings and tail which has 3 or 4 thin white bands between wider black bands. Back is brown and the underparts are barred with red, brown, and white. Has a translucent "window" in the wings at the base of the primary flight feathers.
