Hear the peregrine's call

AKA: Duck hawk, American peregrine, Peales's falcon

SIZE: 15 to 20 inches

WINGSPAN: 37 to 46 inches

FLIGHT SPEED: 28 to 62 MPH in glide. Can reach over 150 MPH when diving at prey.

FEEDING HABITS: Rock doves (domestic pigeons) are the peregrine's favorite prey. Eats many other birds and occasionally small mammals and insects like migrating monarch butterflies.

IDENTIFICATION: Upperparts are blue-grey. Head has characteristic wide sideburns. Underparts heavily cross-barred.
