Welcome to Hanging Rock
Hanging Rock Raptor Observatory
on Peter's Mountain in Monroe
County, West Virginia, is a
former fire tower now used
to monitor raptor migration.
Every year, starting around
the first of September,
volunteers man the tower to
watch for migrating hawks,
eagles, falcons, and ospreys.
The building shown in the
photo, built in 1972, was
destroyed by fire on
February 10, 1996. It was
rebuilt in the summer of
1997 using the original
