Kettle

When hawks migrate, they take advantage of helpful wind currents so they can glide as much as possible to save energy. When the birds hit a thermal, they take the opportunity to gain altitude by circling in the updraft. With hundreds of birds circling and rising, it resembles boiling water in a kettle. In the northeast, the term boil is sometimes used instead of kettle.
